Hi sclexman, Thanks for the thoughts. I built multiple machines using Iomega Zip and Jaz drives with Windows XP.

Windows XP on install (with SP3) has good drivers for Adaptec 2940 SCSI controllers and drivers for JAZ, ZIP, and multiple other vendoe CD and CD/RW drives including Toshiba and Yamaha drives. I used some Internal and some External easily moved from machine to machine when needed.

I don't usse the XP machines much now, but do at times and with the External SCSI drives I thought getting SCSI to work well with Windows 7 would be good. My Windows 7 machine is a 64 bit with an Adaptec 29160N SCSI controller.

On BOOT, the Adaptec BIOS extension sees the drives just fine, but Windows & does not see the JAZ, ZIP, or CD RD/W drives I have that work fine in XP. I have heard that Windows 7 32bit might work better with them but I am not going there. Thanks again, I guess my antiques will collect more dust. ♦ Find a post helpful? Majestic, Thanks for the ideas. The drives I've been playing with are pre XP, but directly supported in XP, recognized and drivers loaded direct form Widows XP. I need to look back and see if I have any old, seperate drivers. I don't know how to extract them from the Widows XP install CDs. I need to think about that., maybe they are in the XP Program area somewhere. Question back to you, were the old machines you had luck with XP drivers 32 bit MBs?

I have heard from others the the XP stuff typically won't insrall in 64bit machines at all. One of Iomega's programs called Iomegeware is one I've thought of installing in a Windows 7 Virtual/XPMode. Thanks again. Hello, From looking around Iomega's support site, it appears the 32-bit version of Windows XP was the last version of Windows for which ZIP and JAZ drivers were issued.

At the very least, you would need 64-bit drivers to identify the hardware to a 64-bit version of Windows, as the 32-bit drivers won't work, but as far as I can figure out, no 64-bit drivers were ever created for the 64-bit editions of Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003 or Window Vista, which is what I would have suggested trying had I found any. Right now, your best bet would to rebuild a computer running 32-bit Windows XP with the Iomega drives connected to them, and then use that to copy all of the files off of the Iomega ZIP and JAZ drives to newer media, like a USB flash drive or external hard disk drive. Then I would recommend putting the Iomega drives and media away someplace safe for a while (months or even a year or two) to make sure you have gotten all the files you need off of them. ♦ Sorry, I don't respond to unsolicited Private Messages. If you have an issue, posting in the appropriate forum is the best way to get assistance. For multiple reasons I have purchased an IOMEGA 250 Zip drive.

I know it's an old way to backup but for many reasons I needed one. The problem is I cannot install the program disc into my compputer with OS Windows 7. Is there a driver availble that will allow compatibility?

IOMega ZIP ZIP disks gained some popularity in home computer use, and ZIP drives were installed even in some Apple Macintosh computers by manufacturer. They became quite popular 'larger floppy', and even some scientific imaging devices had ZIP drives built-in.

Included software offered ease of use - to use ZIP drive in a new computer, for example to show some images or presentation, it was needed only to run one program. Driver installed itself and opened a new drive letter for drive. ZIP drives could be attached to parallel port, SCSI (there were combo versions - SCSI and parallel, depending of cable installed) or IDE (ATAPI - early pure-IDE versions are very rare), and later units had USB capabilities. After USB flash drives came to market, IOMega released 750MB ZIP, but it was too late for it and 750MB ZIP never gained popularity.

Unfortunately ZIP drives were prone to click-of-death failures. These failures (their mechanism is described in FAQ) could cause data and media loss. Branding portable ZIP-like drive 'IOMega Click!'

Was not a good idea when these problems came out:). Manufacturer: IOMega Type: Disks and drive Capacity: 100MB, 250MB To run ZIP drive, you must have ZIP Tools or ZIP Guest driver. IOMega released drivers in packages, so usually ZIP 250 driver package contain older driver for 100, and it may contain even drivers for IDE, ATAPI or parallel port drives. IOMegaware is a big package containing nearly all drivers. Zip Tools is a full suite of software, while ZIP Guest is a simple DOS driver only to run ZIP drive and access files. There are also Win95 versions of Guest tool. Under DOS, you usually run guest with paraleter letter, like: guest letter=z installs ZIP under letter Z.

Make sure the letter is not forbidden by LASTDRIVE. Parallel port ZIP won't work with unidirectional ports. More about using ZIP drivers can be read in site. Unfortunately IOMega can't go along with download links on their own website, they change it frequently and make dead links in support pages, especially for older platforms, so I have to waste my hosting bandwidth and put here essentials which allow to use ZIP with old computers. So, For Windows 98, 2K, ME, XP or 3.x, just download JAZ pack (, ). For Windows 95 and NT, try this: ( ).

This archive contains 3.11 and 3.06 old versions. DOS: Guest may be used, is a version 5.4. 's older 4.2 with all driver package. Packages contain Guest95 too. Package contains earlier versions of GUEST (3.x, 4.x, 5.0), you should also check as it contains minimum driver sets for parallel port and SCSI. If you want to get a full-service package for DOS and Windows, with all these fireworks like a ZIP presentation, get this file: ( ). This is OS/2 package.

Not tested: There are some alternative drivers such as commercial PalmZip, which can work under DOS with very old computers (8086). Notice difference between ZIP 100 and 250MB in reflective surface (250MB on the right).

Record=it was a sound streaming application which allowed to record sound directly to a ZIP disk. Not only IOMega made ZIPs, and many companies made accessories for ZIP drives: media towers or carrying bags which made a normal ZIP drive an easy portable device. ZIP ATAPI version and SCSI (100MB). ZIP power supply and 250MB Plus version (SCSI and parallel port).
