Hopefully someone can help me out here. I recently purchased a new 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2GHz Intel Core i7 Quad-Core, 8GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM HDD, OS X 10.6.7) and I am having great difficulties getting my Phonic Helix Board 12 Plus USB audio interface to be recognised by my Mac. I have installed the Mac drivers from the disc which came with the mixer, and the quick installation is reported as successful. However when I go into the Audio MIDI Setup utility, no new device appears on the list. I then went to the Phonic website, navigated my way to my product and downloaded and installed the latest Mac driver, which was for Snow Leopard. Again, after installing it was reported as successful, and once again no new device appeared in the Audio MIDI Setup utility. Cubase LE 4 cannot find any other audio devices either (apart from the in-built line-in, line-out and mic).

I am really stuck and frustrated with all this, I sent Phonic a support email, labelled as critical, and after a week still no reply. Hopefully someone in this community can help me.

It's annoying because I bought this MacBook Pro with a strong intention of recording with all of my gear (which all says 'Mac Compatible'). So basically, my drivers are not installing properly and are not being recognised by the Mac. Thanks in advance, Andrejs MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7) Posted on Jun 15, 2011 4:02 AM. Well it looks as though I'm not the only one here with that problem. I rang up the Australian distributor for Phonic (which is CMI Music) and spoke to their technical support representative. I explained to him my situation, and he first said that this is a common problem, related to the permissions that the user has on their Mac Hard Drive (HD).

Here is what he suggested to try and solve the problem: - First make sure you Helix Board is disconnected from your Mac and is turned off. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest Mac driver for your Helix Board 12 Plus from the Phonic website. Here's a link to get you there quickly: (under the downloads section) - Click on the Applications folder in the dock, then the Utilities folder, and then open up the Disk Utility. When opened, on the left hand pane, select your 'Macintosh HD' on the list. Under the 'First Aid' tab (which should be selected by default), there should be a button which says 'Verify Disk Permissions', and underneath it should be a button that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'.

Click on 'Repair Disk Permissions' (and not the 'Repair Disk' button that is over on the other side of the window. This process should take a few minutes, and once completed, reboot your MacBook Pro. Once logged back in, hook up the Helix Board and power it up, and have a look if it turns up in the Audio MIDI Setup utility. If it has, then your DAW software or recording programs should be able to recognise the Helix Board and begin streaming the independent channels to your Mac. Unfortunately, this process still didn't solve my problem, so I have emailed CMI Music again, and I am currently waiting for a response.

I'll keep you posted with any further updates from CMI technical support. Hope this helps, Andrejs Jun 21, 2011 4:34 AM.
