Guys, the unthinkable has happened: My husband has out-trended SELF's fittest staffers. That's right, my husband - the one who likes to work out on the - inadvertently helmed the fitness bandwagon. Let me back up. You may have seen creator Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) on Friday night's episode of Shark Tank. He didn't win over the judges, but DDP won over my husband almost a year ago (that's the two of them, pictured together at right, doing DDP's signature hand move) - and he's been begging me to write about it ever since.
I resisted; even though I did like the approach. But I was wrong, people are into DDP: Carolyn Clark, Yahoo Web Trend Expert, says that web searches for DDP Yoga are up more than 4,000 percent since its Shark Tank appearance. Rather than tell you why DDP Yoga is so awesome (besides that it's a hybrid of yoga, traditional fitness, sports therapy and resistance to enhance fat loss and increase muscle growth without putting stress on joints), I'm going to let my betrothed, Ben Zoldan, convince you. After all, he found it first!

'I personally got into DDP Yoga about eight months ahead of my wedding. My wife, SELF editor Rachel Jacoby Zoldan, regularly engages in all kinds of vigorous exercise; I regularly engage in video-game combat. But with my nuptials coming up, I knew my gut was not going to get rid of itself. As a pro wrestling enthusiast, DDP Yoga was something I had already heard of (DDP is a former pro wrestling champ), and I decided to give it a shot. I could do the program at home and hey, if I decided it wasn't for me, it wasn't like DDP could reach through the screen and body slam me. When the DVDs arrived, I couldn't have been more confident in my decision: Standing behind DDP in all of the many routines are real people - not fitness models.
Step one for making a yoga-newbie feel comfortable. Better than that, though, is that DDP encourages you to start with suggested position modifications, and promises that if you keep with it, you'll get the hang of it.
And he was totally right. I'll never forget the moment a few weeks after starting when I was sitting down folding laundry and I casually reached for and grabbed a pair of socks beyond my toes.

I could touch my toes for the first time since.well, ever. More to like: Almost all the yoga poses have been renamed, taking out traditional yogi slang and replacing 'em with wrestling terms or other overtly masculine monikers. 'Child's Pose' is 'Safety Zone', 'Warrior' is dubbed 'Road Warrior' and more. Heck, the workout's tagline is 'This ain't your mama's yoga,' which, of course, I totally dig. I think the main takeaway from DDP Yoga is how do-able it really is.
And just like anything, the more you put into it, the more results you get. I'm great at making excuses not to work out, but I can't say I don't have 20 minutes three times a week to devote to my health. Because I do. And DDP Yoga is so positive and yielded such irrefutable results for me that I'd recommend it to anyone.' So there you have it, everyone.
